Ordering a skylight from another state sounds like a hassle. Here's why so many people do it anyway.
Why we come in cheaper
Here's the thing — VELUX is the only thing we sell. We buy a lot of it, so we buy it well. Your local building supplier orders one in when someone asks, and you pay for that. Usually our price covers the freight and you're still in front.
Flashings nobody else will make
This is the big one. We make custom base flashings ourselves, out of colorbond, for your exact skylight and your exact roof. Odd pitch, curved roof, three in a row — the jobs most suppliers say no to, we just make. Fifteen years of installing them went into how they're built.
Someone who actually knows
Send us a photo of your roof. We'll tell you the model, the size and the flashing code you need — that's it. No quote form, no waiting. It costs you nothing, and it's the difference between a skylight that fits and a box going back on a truck.

It depends what you're ordering — a flat-packed skylight and a custom-made flashing don't travel the same way. Whatever it comes to, you'll see it at checkout before you pay, and nothing gets added afterwards. Chuck the items in the cart and have a look before you commit to anything.

Four things to get right
Sort these and ordering from another state is no harder than ordering from down the road.
Your roof
Flat or pitched, tile or metal deck. That decides the skylight and the flashing, so start here.
Fixed or openable
Fixed if you just want the light. Openable — manual, solar or electric — if you want the hot air gone too.
The flashing
The flashing is what keeps the water out. Ordering a skylight without one is the mistake we see most.
Getting it in
Your own roofer can fit it. We'll send the guides, and we're on the phone if they've got questions.

Ordering from another state
How do I know I'm ordering the right thing from 1,000km away?
Send us a photo of the roof and the room, and roughly the size you're after. We'll come back with the exact model, size and flashing code. It costs nothing and it's the best five minutes you'll spend on this — nearly every ordering mistake we see is a flashing mistake.
Do I need a flashing as well as the skylight?
Yes. The flashing is what ties the skylight into your roof and keeps the water out, and it's specific to your roof material and pitch. If your roof's a bit unusual, we'll make one to suit — that's a big part of why people come to us in the first place.
What does freight cost and how long does it take?
It varies by what you order and where it's going, and you'll see the exact figure at checkout before you pay. Stocked items move fast. Custom-made flashings take longer because we're making them for your job. If you're working to a date, ring us first and we'll give you a straight answer.
Can I pick it up instead?
Yes. We've got collection depots in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Newcastle, plus showrooms at Burleigh Heads and South Nowra and the warehouse at Caringbah. Choose your pick-up spot at checkout.
What if it turns up damaged?
Transit insurance is $40 at checkout and worth taking. If something does go wrong, ring us — we'll deal with the freight company, not you.
Who installs it?
It's roof work, so most people get a roofer or builder to do it. Our installer network covers Sydney and NSW. Interstate, any competent roofer can fit a VELUX with the right flashing, and our installation guides and videos are free to use.
Fixed or openable — which do I want?
Fixed is cheaper and it's all you need if you're after daylight. Openable lets the hot air out, which makes a real difference in bathrooms, kitchens and upstairs rooms — more so the further north you are. Openable comes in manual, solar and electric.
