What is skylight flashing?

What is skylight flashing and do I need it?

A crucial part of any skylight installation is the flashing system which is used to surround the skylight in the roof. The flashing is used as a way to ensure your skylight is waterproof.

The type of flashing you need depends on the type of material used on your roof and the pitch of your roof. Shire Skylights manufacture a pitch adaptor base flashing to suit the entire VELUX range, this will ensure the weatherproof integrity of your VELUX skylight.

All Shire skylights flat roof base flashings are made from .55bmt Colorbond Steel, unlike other suppliers who use a powder coating process which fades and deteriorates over time. All bases are pre-fabricated ready to install, with all joins polyurethane sealed and pop riveted. We stock all standard Colorbond colours.

Pitch adaptor base flashing (0-15 Degrees)

VELUX Pitched roof skylights (FS,VS,VSE) are designed to be installed at a minimum 15 degree roof pitch. In Australia a low pitch roof design (flat roof) is becoming more and more common in a range of profiles such as, Tile, Klip Lock, Trim deck, Corrugated and Concrete. The pitch adaptor flashing is designed for a flat roof to integrate into a tile, klip lock, trim deck, corrugated and concrete roof types.

Pitched roof base flashing (15+ degrees)

Shire Skylights pitched roof base flashing is designed to suit the VELUX Pitched roof skylights (FS,VS,VSE) when the roof pitch is above 15 Degrees. Colorbond roof coverings are becoming more and more common in a range of profiles such as, Klip Lock, Trim deck & Corrugated. As VELUX Australia DO NOT provide a flashing to match a colorbond roof Shire Skylights have designed a flashing that works for Klip Lock, Trim deck & Corrugated roofs.
